Technogoly at Levi’s Stadium

Technogoly at Levi’s Stadium

Assignment: Highlight the new technology at the new home for the San Francisco 49ers, Levi’s Stadium, which was then still under construction.

Notes: The footage was gathered by my co-workers. They used two cameras, and one of them had an extremely dirty lens. The footage was unstable, and the majority of it was unusable. The direction was minimal, and I used the footage that best suited the objective

Greenery

Greenery

Description: This was a fun video I did on a hiking trip. I brought the camera and some new lenses (Canon 17-85mm and Rokinon 8mm Fisheye) to Lands End which is a beautiful hiking trail in San Francisco. In the post production process, I wanted to practice using the tints and hues, and play with the colors, and give it a real “trippy” look. I also wanted to experiment with transitions I normally don’t use.

Roy Ayers Project

Description: The Roy Ayers Project is a multitude of things, all which directly and indirectly tribute Roy Ayers and his contributions to music and incredible career which has spanned over fifty years. The Roy Ayers Project is first and foremost a documentary film, paying tribute to the legend by showing exclusive interviews with Roy Ayers’ contemporaries as well as artists and personalities who are influenced by the music, philosophy, and personality of Roy.

For this project, I serve as creator, producer, and director. I have built this project from the ground up, including designing the logo, building the site via WordPress, planning and conducting interviews, directing a small crew, organizing, and many more tasks that have produced an amazing project highlighting one of jazz’s great musicians and personalities.

Below are a few snippet trailers that show the video aspect of the Roy Ayers Project. For more information on the Roy Ayers Project, visit royayersproject.com/film

STILL LOVE BALL (Short Film)

STILL LOVE BALL (A Documentary Short Film) from Haylow on Vimeo.

Description: This is a film about my brother and his lifelong passion for basketball. This was an extremely fun project, and one that I am most proud of because it was fully shot on my iPhone 6. My brother, who is an inspiring videographer, was upset that he didn’t have the latest equipment to make a production. I wanted to prove to him that we have adequate equipment and that we can make a great product if we put our resources together. With some makeshift camera rigging, a great subject, and some help from my sister, we made a short film that is one of my favorite pieces.

Everlane Promo

Assignment: Download footage from Everlane’s Vimeo page and make a :15 video using their footage. I tried to mimic Everlane’s style of clothing through video — clean, basic, simple, and trendy. This style of short form video can be used for Instagram and other forms of social media.

Lexx Valdez: Art Show Recap

Description: “DIG” was a solo art show by a very talented Oakland based artist Lexx Valdez. I captured the opening night of the art show by shooting many of the beautiful faces in attendance including reactions, live music, and the overall space the feel of the evening.

Lexx Valdez: DIG

Description: An advertisement for Oakland based artist Lexx Valdez’s upcoming art show entitled “DIG”. I wanted to highlight Lexx’s creativity in collage making and show elements of her process without giving too much away to the audience.

Warriors Unveiling

Assignment: The Golden State Warriors were unveiling their new alternate black uniforms at 6:00pm, and this video had to be turned around as soon as possible. I was able to complete the edit by about 10:00pm that evening. I was strictly an editor on this piece.

Americas Cup Red Bull Prelim Race

Americas Cup Red Bull Prelim Race

Assignment: This was some excellent footage from the America’s Cup in the San Francisco Bay, but unfortunately, the direction wasn’t as good as the footage. I was handed a couple hard drives of footage with the specific instructions of “make this look cool”. I attempted to create a narrative of an exciting race between the two boats.

Creative Inspiration

Creative Inspiration

Description: I was bored and cooped up at home on a cold evening, and my space was a mess. I felt the need to be creative, so I made a video leaving my space as is, and shooting my creative inspirations. I used this as practice for framing and composition, as well as unconventional editing (this was also my earlier days on Premiere, so I wanted to use the practice). I wanted the music and pace to effect my overall mood at the time. This video also showing a few of my favorite musicians, some of the art which I have made, and other unique objects that inspire me aesthetically.
